Google added a new feature to its Google Now service, which allows
the users to send messages to their contacts through three of the most
popular chatting applications, WhatsApp, Viber or WeChat. In the past
years, messaging applications started becoming very popular and they’re
slowly killing the traditional texting method. Some people prefer
WhatsApp, while others are loyal to other applications and to keep in
touch with all of them, we have to install the applications that they
use. Google made things simpler, allowing users to send messages via
these applications, thanks to Google Now’ new functionality.
The intelligent personal assistant is available on mobile devices, within
the Google Search application and can also integrate into the Google Chrome web browser, but only on computers. You can give voice commands to take a picture or to make a phone call, and all you have to do is to tap on the Google microphone icon. The new feature allows sending messages via WhatsApp,Viber etc. and when you see the mic icon pulsating, you will say “Ok Google, send a WhatsApp (Viber) message”. You will need to specify the name of the person who will receive your message and after specifying the recipient’s name, you’ll start dictating the text and then send it. To make things even easier, you can say “Ok Google, send a WhatsApp message to X (recipient’s name)”.
Currently, the Google Now users can send messages to WeChat, Telegram and Nextplus, as well, and soon, this feature will be extended to more messaging applications. If you want to send messages verbally, using Google Now, you need to update the Google Search application. The problem is that, for now, Google Now supports sending messages using your voice only in English language, but in the future, the service will support more languages.
When Android M will be released, the new operating system will make Google Now even smarter, replacing it with “Now on Tap”.
